A New Laptop For Your Child's Bedroom?

As Christmas rapidly approaches there seems to be 1 present that is on most kids minds this year, their own personal laptop for their bedroom. As wireless networking within the house is now very common it's no surprise that more and more children look to use the Internet in their privacy of their own space. My daughter has had a laptop for more than a year now and can often not be seen for hours on end as she chats on MSN Messenger or Bebo. The trouble is that before I used to be able to walk behind her every now and then to see what she was up to, once your child is locked in their room you really have NO IDEA what they are doing and who they are talking to online. As I'm sure you all know asking a 12,13,14 year old what they are doing is just a waste of breath, "nothin" will always be the answer!

If you are getting a laptop this year then please at the very least make yourself aware of the dangers that exist out there. For younger children it is essential (in my opinion) that you use some sort of monitoring software, with any luck you'll never see anything to worry you but you can never be too safe. The following is an example of something that was being circulated on Bebo recently to girls 12,11 and even younger. Now how would you feel if it was your child sending this around, then again if you don't keep an eye on them how do you know they're not?
