Formspring.me - Who Is Asking Your Children Intimate Questions?

Warning – The following article contains language that may offend, sorry but that's the nature of Formspring.me

If you’ve spent more than 10 seconds on this website then you’ve probably got the opinion that I’m not the biggest fan of Facebook , you'd be right. The idea of children using Facebook is absurd (Facebook was started with very clear motives in mind, this isn’t compatible with children’s social networking). However Facebook is far from the “worst” website your kids could be using, lets talk about one of the real harmful websites for children, Formspring.me

What Is Formsping.me?

In essence it's a question and answer social network. Users sign up in order to answer questions posed to them. These questions can come from one of three sources -

  1. Anonymous visitors to the website
  2. Anonymous users of the website
  3. Other users who declare who they are

In order to use Formspring.me to answer questions you have to be over 13, of course there is no enforcement of this policy and you’ll find as many young children using Formspring.me as you could ever “like”. Where Formspring.me becomes dangerous is the combination of two factors, the ability to ask questions anonymously plus the fact that users profiles are publically accessible from the internet. You can ask a CHILD any question you like using Formsping.me (Anonymously) Pardon my French but that is f******g outrageous!!! As an example here are several questions that I’ve seen asked to kids in the past few days:-

How many cocks have you sucked this week?

Do you swallow?

Ever wanted to know how many blowjobs your child has given this week, well thanks to Formspring.me you (me and coincidentally the REST OF THE WORLD) can find out no problem. All you have to do is ask (if it hasn’t been already). I wish those were the worst but honestly I wouldn’t want to publicise some of the things that are going on within the Formspring.me website, suffice to say any parent with half a brain will be shocked to their core. Want a treat? Try using this search in Google - site:www.formspring.me + your childs name. Anonymous people have the ability to ask your children anything they like in as much detail as they chose with no active monitoring/censorship of the questions.

Anybody with an ounce of common sense knows that anonymity + kids doesn't tend to work out well. Even if you want to wish for the best and hope that the people asking questions/connecting are in the same age group consider the repercussions of having that information openly available for the world to read online. All it takes is one libellous suggestion and a mentality of “no smoke without fire”. Add in a healthy dose of bullying, harassment and you have Formspring.me The wrongness of this website beggars belief. If there is ONE website to add to your routers blocked list then this is it! I'm not the only one that thinks like this about Formsping.me either!

But What If My Child REALLY Wants To Use Formspring

First off, if your child is under 13 they should not be using Formspring fullstop, it's against their TOS. If you have a younger teenager that wants to use it and you are of a disposition to let them then at least make sure they follow these simple steps to protect themselves and their information:-

  1. Use the option to block anonymous questions. In all the acocunts I've seen I've never seen a single "decent" question asked from an anonymous user.
  2. Use a private profile. This stops the general public being able to view the profile and ask questions.
